If you are in Paris these days and you like Dior, fashion or even creativity, you should absolutely go to the Dior exhibition!
“Christian Dior, couturier du rêve” is an exhibition taking place in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris to celebrate the house’s 70th anniversary.
The exhibition will end on the 7th of January and the entire museum is dedicated to it. It is about the house Dior. Not only Christian Dior though. Also, all the designers that were part of the atelier after the demise of the founder. This means you will see creations of Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri.
There is no doubt Dior means Haute Couture. There are more than 300 haute couture dresses, accessories of all kinds, toiles, fashion photographs, documents, illustrations, even old advertisements… all the material will walk you through the history of the house but also the evolution of the fashion through the 20th century. From the New Look that started in 1947 to today’s latest designs.
Christian Dior was an art lover, and he connected both worlds constantly. The Dior exhibition reflects that, matching the different dresses and styles with paintings, objects d´art, and furniture.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you can see.
The curators are Olivier Gabet, The Arts Decoratifs Museum´s director, and Florence Müller from the Avenir Foundation Curator of Textile Art & Fashion of Denver Art Museum.
In 1987 the same museum hosted another Dior exhibition. At that time, the exhibition was focused only on the designs of Christian Dior so between 1947 to 1957. It was a celebration of the New Wave and the “Flower Women” he created. Today’s exhibition is more comprehensive and is visually a dream whether you like fashion or not.
Wouldn’t it be absolutely amazing to have such an exhibition here in the UAE?
