If you live in Dubai and are a mom then you must have heard from the very lovely Yasmin Carey AKA @thecareymum. The blogger all mommies would love and can relate to.
Yasmin does not sugar coat her life experiences, and that is why her voice is so important on the mothers/bloggers community. In a world that has glamorized the unrealistic Instagram world, is always good to have a real voice like hers.
We had every now and then mini chats about her funny toddler Mase and her adorable new baby Ellis. But this time we sat and exchange ideas. As a new –and double mom– Yasmin has many pieces of advice for those women living the same experiences.
THE INTERVIEW: YASMIN CAREY
How can you manage your time now with a new baby at home?
To be completely honest it was really difficult at first, especially adjusting from one to two children. But after the first few weeks, we managed to establish some sort of routine and things started to settle. My “me” time fits in around school drop-offs/pick-ups and nap times. My husband is also great and I get to escape to the salon for all important pamper and self-care!
Has dressing the new body been difficult for you? How has been?
I found the changes to my body really difficult especially after having my first son. Before I had him, I was always quite slim, never needed to exercise or diet, etc., so post-birth having this, what felt like an alien body, was really difficult. I never ‘snapped’ back fully to my pre-baby weight. I first dressed to hide my body then realized that the really baggy clothes made me look even bigger and feel really frumpy! So I finally found my style and comfort zone. Not skin tight body cons but pinching in at the waist and flowing over my new-found curves.
You have remained very stylish. How you do it and manage it all?
Thanks so much. It’s all very much comfort and practicality over style. I love bargain buys and believe that I don’t need to be dropped in designer wear to look and feel good. I’m not precious about my day-to-day clothes, if the kids spit up on me, its fine. If Mason gets paint on me, it’s fine. Lots of my clothes are from Primark in the UK and I absolutely love ASOS, especially their clearance and sales. I’m quite short too, 5ft 2″ so I love their petite range. They also stock “New Look” which I can’t find in Dubai anymore.

BEAUTY & STYLE ADVICE TO MOMS FROM YASMIN CAREY
Let´s take about beauty: how the lack of sleep has affected your eye bags? What products you use for your skincare (face and body).
I love Huda’s foundation and concealer. I always remove my make up with wipes, cleanser then toner, and in the Dubai heat, I don’t usually wear too much make-up during the day because it just melts off. However, I have lash extensions that instantly make me look and feel a bit glam on the school run even with no make-up on. I get them done at Beauty Garden in JLT, they always fit my appointments around school and bedtimes, etc. With this salon, I have an exclusive 30% discount code there for any first treatment: code thecareymum. I use them for my nails, hair, lashes, massages, and facials!
What would be the best styling tips you can give to the new moms that are reading you?
Dress for comfort. If it makes you feel good then wear it! Confidence and a smile is the best thing you can wear! It’s taken me a while but I fully embrace and accept my new body.
BODY CHANGES
Have you talked to Mase about the body changes you have been through? What do you think is the best way to deal with that?
When I was pregnant with Ellis he mentioned my big belly quite a lot. Then after I had him he said “mummy, your belly is small now and you can fit into soft play with me again” it made me realize that actually yes it is… in comparison to how big it was with Ellis inside me. Our bodies are amazing! He sees my body all the time, in the shower, getting dressed, etc. There’s no hiding with a toddler. Kids can be brutal but luckily Mason hasn’t said anything too savage to me about my body… yet!
Practicing with Mase definitely has to make your journey with baby Ellis easier. If you could turn back time what would you do and don´t being a new mom?
Most definitely. I would 100% be more relaxed with Mason although I think it’s natural as a first-time mum to be super protective. I’m far more relaxed with Ellis. One thing I wouldn’t change and do with Ellis is enjoying every minute, every little cuddle. They really do grow up fast.
What would you advise to new moms that are reading you?
Embrace everything and every minute. Even the bad days because for every bad moment there are a million good ones and even more to come!
Also, what’s better than a thigh gap? For me, the answer is two beautiful gorgeous healthy cute handsome cheeky boys!
