Today, 21st of March we honor all mothers and the beautiful maternal bonds in the UAE. To all the Moms out there, we want to say Happy Mother´s Day! You are special, you are unique, your love shifts mountains and melts hearts.
Now that I became a mom myself, this day is extra special. Also, I get to understand many things my mom used to say and I just took for granted. It is true… being a mom changes everything. You experience love like never before, so strong and so powerful that it is even overwhelming, especially at the beginning.
BUT, WHY EVERY COUNTRY SEEMS TO HAVE A DIFFERENT MOTHER´S DAY?
Yes, it is a day that is celebrated in every culture and country. No matter the part of the world. Motherhood as a representation of life, the lifecycle, fertility, the origins, the love… is celebrated everywhere and yet we fail to celebrate it all together and each country selected a different date.
For example in the Middle East and some African countries, it is celebrated on the 21st of March. In Spain, it is always the first Sunday of May. While in the US, the Caribbean, Latin America, some Asian (including our neighbor India), European and African countries is the second Sunday of May. In the UK, it happened not long ago, on the 11th of March- so it is not linked to colonization.
In Thailand for example, they celebrate Mother´s Day on the 12th of August coinciding with the birthday of the Queen.
