Yep! You heard it well. Ralph Lauren is celebrating his 50th Anniversary in New York Fashion Week. How? Throwing an amazing party, – sorry, catwalk- that got together the best of American society. 50 years in this very difficult industry is such an achievement, it well deserves the applause and our admiration!
HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY RALPH LAUREN!
Ralph Lauren defined not just the material of American fashion, but it’s very uniqueness. His catwalk shows are always full of supermodels, front row celebrities and all the American glam people. For this very special anniversary, he went even bigger. Doing only one catwalk mixing the creations from womenswear Ralph Lauren Collection, men’s Double RL, and men’s, women’s and children’s Polo Ralph Lauren. More than 150 models of all ages, colors, and sizes strutted the carpeted floor of the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, Yallah! Everything and everyone under his watch.
He said in a statement for the press: “For my 50th anniversary, I wanted to create and share a runway experience that was deeply personal and a summation of the style I’ve always believed in: personal, authentic, and forever, in a place so quintessentially New York and so special to me as it is Central Park”.
THE LOOKS
We saw looks with a sense of romantic sophistication and some other looks urban, and sporty. He managed to mix and match this in the catwalk by making a short pause in the show. We saw lots of velvet gowns, skirts in burgundy, navy blue and dark green. There were also luxurious oversized knits, with graphics and stickers, artisanal patchworks, eclectic beading, hand-painted accents, plaid lumberjack shirts, and of course lots and lots of denim.
Colors went from the brown, grey, dark blue, for the more elegant suits and dresses to a colorful play of reds, blacks, blues and yellows in the more urban looks. Of course, besides denim, there were nice varsity jackets with stickers and messages. Materials like corduroy, tweed, suede, and soft leather, mixed with puffy skiwear and velvet or sequins.
All items from the 50th-anniversary collection are now available at RalphLauren.com and in global flagship stores, including Dubai, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Paris, or Moscow.
SPOTTED AT THE SHOW
Oprah was there, and she delivered a heartfelt opening message.
Your work inspires the story of our lives. The lives that we lived and the lives that we aspire to” she said. “We are here because you have lasted.”
But we also saw Priyanka Chopra with her now fiancé Nick Jonas, Hillary Clinton, Anna Wintour, Kanye West, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jessica Chastain. From the fashion world, we saw Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors among many other celebrities.
AN ODE TO DIVERSITY
There is another reason why we loved this catwalk. It was indeed a representation of the diversity found in American society and not always portraited in fashion shows. Models together with random people of all sizes, colors, and ages did a beautiful job. We loved especially the children and the families walking hand in hand and the children playing once the catwalk was finished. It is cute, it is real… It is Ralph talking directly to the people that are buying and living in his clothes.
