The Palazzo Versace hosted back again a night of fashion, glamour, and creativity at The Royal Gala. Thanks to the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hend Faisal Al Qassemi we got the opportunity to enjoy the talent from all over the world, and quite literally so. We saw designers from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Spain, Russia, and of course a good representation of GCC based designers.
THE DESIGNERS AT THE ROYAL GALA
HOUSE OF HEND & BYMARA AND MARAJAI
House of Hend, a very elegant and sophisticated brand designed by Her Highness Sheikha Hend herself, collaborated with Spanish shoe and handbags designers ByMara and Marajai. The result was a fabulous catwalk full of wearable and chic pieces that will stand the test of time and trends.
AMAZING BRIDALS FROM JOEL REYES AND MANUEL TISCAREÑO
Joel Reyes from the Dominican Republic brought feminine couture creations, including bridal. And talking about bridal, Mexican designer Manuel Tiscareño closed the catwalk with impressive handcrafted gowns full of embroidery, pearls and Swarovski stones. These dresses are so dreamy that they made me want to marry again!
YAS GONZALEZ´S COLORFUL COLLECTIONS
Yas Gonzalez, a Cuban- American designer brought the sun (and the azucar!) to the catwalk presenting two very vibrant collections. One inspired in Cuba and the other inspired in Mexico. Both collections were colorful, fresh, fun, playing and portraying cultural aspects from both countries (Frida included!). She designs for a strong, opinionated, free latin woman that doesn’t limit herself and is very self-confident. The music she selected made the public dance in their chairs.
ELEGANCE FOR WORK OR PLAY
From Russia, we had Bailiss with her beautiful dresses, skirts, and blouses. We are in love and totally obsessed with this red velvet dress with the 3D tulips. From the UAE, Belyed Handcraft showed sophisticated beach proposals with airy kaftans in silk of the highest quality and accessories like jewelry and hats from Stone Affair.
Other interesting proposals came from the hand of Royal Senses Designs from Afghanistan with handsewn patterns and gorgeous kaftans and dresses. Larimar by Szandra with block color cocktail and party dresses that had a touch of the 20´s, or Alina Anwar and Samir Kerzabi with their dreamy and shiny gowns for very special occasions.
THE ROYAL GALA EXHIBITION
Some Spanish designers were showcased in kind of an exhibition at the entrance of the Main Hall. There you could find some of the pieces of fashion titans such as Pertegaz, Moskada or Hannibal Laguna. In the case of Pertegaz, he has been kind of a Dior or Balenciaga… One of those designers that many people cherished and started a movement in the 50´s and 60´s. He was so influential that he designed the wedding dress of today´s Spanish Queen Letizia. He died at 96 in 2014 but his brand and his style perdure.
Fashion renews itself all the time thanks to the creativity and imagination of designers. Our lives would be very different without them.
