What an amazing week for art in Dubai! Art Week just finished and we enjoyed each and every piece we saw. In this article, we are sharing with you our experience in Sikka Art Fair 2018. This art fair supports mainly emerging talents based in GCC and UAE. Art exhibitions, installations, workshops, screenings, live performances… It had it all!
THE PLACE
Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood is a great location and it helps you to get in the mood. All the Galleries are set in traditional architecture houses and each door surprised you with a different artwork. From the streets to the rooftops, you could find things to do or to enjoy.
SIKKA ART FAIR 2018 HIGHLIGHTS
One of the highlights of this year was the Saudi House by Culture-Focused Tamashee. Carefully curated, it takes you through a nice travel around some Saudi-Arabian traditions but reconstructed by the artists. Some of them even proposing their own rebellious view.
Yoshita Ahmed lighted us with a really interesting installation called “99 Names”.
“My travel journals” by Jomana Issmaiel, made us dream with her illustrations.
Fatma Lootah defying gravity with her tree installation and delighting us with her beautiful artwork.
Also, Alia Bent Sultan inspired and empowered us with her photos.
WORKSHOPS AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Workshops were quite diverse and fun. Many of them aimed at kids, for example, Planting by Enable in Social House, Art in Clay by Yadawei Ceramics Studio, or Oil Painting hosted by Architectural Heritage Society, among others. And for adults like Succulent Arrangement by Enable in Social House; Contemporary Hand Embroidery by Olga Dajanani; or Gypsum Carving and woodcraft also in Architectural Heritage Society.
And to get all your senses covered, there were also some cool live music presentations in the Courtyard B. As well as, screening of films and documentaries presented by Loco’Motion Dubai.
