As women, we know how having (or not having) our period changes our life. We have been educated in schools, with our mothers, friends… and in my case, I have been menstruating long enough to understand what works and what doesn’t work for me. Not all women are this lucky. On the 28th of May, it is Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day)
Menstruation is a big taboo. Something considered better to hide and never to mention. Well, if it is going to affect the lives of millions of ladies around the globe, if it is going to affect the school attendance rate, their chances to succeed in life… We better talk and talk loud about it!
WHAT IS MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY?
Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) is a global advocacy platform that brings together the voices and actions of non-profits, government agencies, individuals, the private sector, and the media to promote good menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) for all women and girls.
You might wonder if there is a real need for such a day. Trust me! There is. Every culture might have a more scientific or paranormal explanation for our periods, but we as women need to make sure we are properly taking care of it and of our health and wellbeing.
No girl should ever stop going to school because of menstruation. And it is fair that every girl is informed about what menstruation is and what products she can use before having her first period.
It is time to unmask the period taboos by investing in research for better health and hygiene of women. We need to create awareness around periods to achieve gender equality.
So, Dr. Rajul Matkar, an internationally-recognized Obstetrician & Gynecologist, with 31 years of clinical experience, is providing a free talk on Menstrual Hygiene.
The activity is sponsored by Lizzom and Goshopia, introducing the menstrual care European brand SelenaCare to the market. We are users and fell in love with their period panties, pads, and menstrual cups!
