You moved to a new apartment, tidied up, finished the decoration. But there’s this feeling of something is missing from the place. You planned how to make our home stylish and friendly, how to distribute the areas, which colors would dominate, cushions, selected a couple of artworks… Despite being finished, it doesn’t feel homey yet? The trick might be in adding a finishing touch to your decor with plants. ????
This is important not only for your home’s looks but also for your health and even your state of mind! Look around and search for greens. Keep looking: where are the plants? They aren’t there at all, right?
Initially, I was reluctant to use plants as part of the decoration, as I’m not very good at taking care of them and the result after a few weeks was a bit embarrassing. But I love challenges too, so I kept trying and got some help from the Internet to figure out how to water them properly and which varieties could grow better at the locations I had available.
WHY PLANTS?
A corner of nature it’s the nemesis of concrete and plastic, it’s alive, it’s relaxing, it’s ambiance. Depending on how you choose and distribute them, plants can enrich an elegant room design or be the extravagant touch that animates a dull decoration. Plants are also an amazing aromatizing tool to add freshness, clean the air or keep some mist in dry rooms.
The benefit is not only physical but also psychological. If they’re real plants, better, but it seems like even the plastic ones will do thanks to their color. Still, we recommend you to have real plants.
It is scientifically proved that, even in the short term, moving around some greens improves the mood, helping in moments of little anxiety or stress. So try to get some plants. They’re helpful even at work.
Check the following suggestions I’ve tried to enhance my place by adding some vegetation.
INDOOR SCENTS
Replacing scents sprays with aromatic plants is the trend now. Some pots of mint, basil, rosemary and other herbs not only provide a natural scent but also are delicious ingredients for cooking lovers. You can go one step further and grow your own herbs by a sunny window. Even a little practice gardening helps clear the mind and focus, not to mention how proud you feel when showing your mini-garden to your acquaintances.
As I mentioned before, the green color helps turn us more emotionally balanced. But I have a couple of favorites for the more -into-flowers people: hyacinths bulbs are a colorful choice spreading a sweet lasting perfume and lavender is well known for its relaxation and sleepy effect when bedtime comes.
PURIFIED CLEAN AIR
Other species are highly recommended to purify the air, especially if you have any disease or respiratory issues. Check this talk about it, includes NASA plants recommendations and subtitles. This sounds convenient in dusty cities like Dubai, areas affected by high-density traffic and all kind of air pollution.
Between the superpowered ones- capable of filtering toxic agents such as ammonia, benzene or formaldehyde- there are many that work well indoors and are easy to find in UAE markets.
- Golden Pothos or Evil’s Ivy.
- Snake Plant: so trendy now in interior design.
- Peace Lily.
- Chrysanthemum: gorgeous flowers.
- Barberton Daisy: loves me, loves me not, loves me…
- Dracaena: an exuberant miniature palm.
So now you have some orientation. Are you ready to beat the summer including some freshness in your life? Are you ready to go shopping at the garden center? My favorite place in Dubai is the nurseries located in Al Warsan area. What other nurseries are your favorite? Let us know in the comments.
