New York Fashion Week is always full of cool and commercial proposals. We loved what we saw and we prepared two posts to share the best of New York Fashion Week for the coming Autumn Winter 2018/2019. For your eyes only!
CALVIN KLEIN: THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA
Calvin Klein is one of the most iconic brands with the most expected collections every season.
Raf Simons is known for his eccentric designs and this time he surprised us with drifts of popcorn representing snow and burned barns form the 19th century. Even some models carried popcorn bags.
For his collection titled “Landscapes,” he gave us a kind of an apocalyptic feel with airy prairie dresses and farmer plaids.
The models walked with silver jackets and metallic and bright orange silhouettes like space suits. Quilt dresses, leather trenches, and crocheted knits were also part of the collection.
This is how the Belgian designer Simon sees the American society with some Americana vibes of the 1960s.
To complete their looks, the models wore accessories like knitted masks and giant silver gloves to be ready for a very cold winter.
This collection is definitely a mix of the discovery of America, the space race of 1960´s and the information age of the 21st century.
NOON BY NOOR: MODERN COLLECTION
The two designers and cousins Shaikha Noor Rashid Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Mohamed Al Khalifa presented this year a classical collection with a big touch of modernity. The show was inspired by Bahrain’s starry sky.
The models marched in soft fluid chiffons and sleek silhouettes. We saw also a lot of black fluid classy pieces with some colours like red, yellow, pink and some midnight blue pieces. The collection was diversified as we saw shirts, pants, skirts, and dresses for the day or for the evening and even some wool sweatshirts.
A lot of the pieces were composed of gold accented fabrics that make us think about a starry sky.
We spotted one of the sweatshirts with the script ‘To the moon and back’ in Arabic with yellow pants and shirt under the sweatshirt and feather embroidery in reference to the Bulbul bird which is the national bird of Bahrain. The silhouettes were completed with flat comfortable shoes in different colors.
MARC JACOBS: A SPIRIT OF ZORRO
Marc Jacobs collection is dramatic with imposing silhouettes. The collection is made of long cashmere coats in different colors with matching hijab-like scarves or balaclavas masks.
Most of the silhouettes were oversized with high-waisted trousers. The fabrics were diversified as leather, wool, tweed. Also, some silk was used for the different pieces. Some of the silhouettes got styled with flower-like belts. A lot of work was made on the shoulders and we can hardly not be impressed by all the details of each piece.
Some of the models marched with sharp satin hats giving off an essence of Zorro.
JEREMY SCOTT: FUNFAIR STYLE
Jeremy Scott is known for being very eccentric and this collection represents him totally.
The silhouettes were made of a lot of colors: pink, yellow, green and also fluorescents.
We can say that this collection is kind of futuristic. Gigi marched with a pink crop top-like jacket and metallic overall.
Then a neon parade of irregular prints (leopard, stripes…) in different fabrics made its entrance.
Also, we saw parachute-like cuts, crop top ensembles, structured skirts and latex rainwear.
He accessorized the looks with plastic jewelry metallic shoes and with fluorescent wigs like Dora The Explorer cut. A little throwback to childhood is never a bad idea!
VIVI ZUBEDI: MODEST FASHION
If you follow or like modest fashion, Vivi Zubedi’s collection is for you.
The Indonesian designer presented a collection with covered silhouette from head to toe. We can say that this collection is dramatic and elegant.
The collection was made of abayas in different colors and with different prints. We spotted bejeweled shiny pieces that can be worn during the day or in the evening.
The dominant colors were purple, black grey, white and camel and fabrics like velvet. She used different prints too. Some of the silhouettes were styled with belts. The models walked with Classic hijab or more casual hijab with sports baseball hats and neck pendants to complete the looks.
