The Royal Gala is the quintessence of luxury and class. The highly anticipated fashion extravaganza followed other fashion related occasions of 2019, ending off the busy season with a blast.
Each year during April and October, The Royal Gala brings together emerging designers for your much-needed dose of haute couture. To live up to its name, the Royal Gala took place in the Royal Ballroom of Palazzo Versace, Dubai.
The ‘Pietre di Fiume’ design of the iconic Medusa and Greek Décor decorated the lobby of the Palazzo Versace. The evening welcomed VIP guests, as well as key business people, media, buyers and digital influencers.
THE ROYAL GALA DESIGNERS
Hosted by H.H Sheikha Hend Faisal Al Qassimi, the event showcased only the best of the best. This year’s designers were from Mexico, Spain, Italy, Russia, Nigeria as well as Morocco and the UAE. With each collection came a unique representation of high-fashion and a journey through different themes and color palettes.
Mexican designers Iann Dey and Morena Corazon used culture and heritage in their designs. Egyptian inspired pieces by Iann Dey were made up of earthy tones with striking gold details. The models were well-accessorized by Morena Corazon. The diverse jewelry line represented her Mexican heritage and displayed features of arts and crafts. Their collection was called ‘Egip|Xico’.
Montenapoleone designer Lorrive by Loren Rivero presented a uniquely themed collection. The pieces were symbolic of the birthstone Amethyst. The Amethyst is a precious jewel that represents purity and carries positive energy. The models showcasing the collection embodied the ideology of the stone as they exuded confidence and graciousness.
Moroccan Couture Kaftan designer, Fatima Idrissi, a familiar face in the fashion industry, with appearances in L.A and Oriental Fashion Week, spiced up traditional pieces with carefully constructed embroidery.
Another interesting and unusual take on fashion was Remezka Shop by Russian Ekatrina Remez. She paired her edgy pieces with intricately hand-made wooden carved bags.
LOCAL TALENT
H.H Sheikha Hend made sure to feature local talent within the fashion show. Such as, Dubai based designer, Larimar by Szandra, presented the entire spectrum of colors with her striking yet feminine designs.
Another Dubai-based label, Vavci, was equally as feminine and showcased Womenswear and Menswear- both followed the same stylish design aesthetic of black and gold.
The face behind the lavish event, H.H Sheikha Hend herself, showcased her label “House of Hend”. The collection was a true reflection of what The Royal Gala represents. All the pieces spoke true to the notion of elegance and class.
STUDENT DESIGNERS
H. H Sheikha Hend’s perseverance in opening the right doors for local talent and young designers was apparent throughout the show. The Royal Gala made it possible for the College of Fashion and Design Dubai (CFD) B.A Fashion students to showcase their designs within an exclusive fashion event.
Definitely, this year’s Royal Gala fulfilled its goal in bringing exposure to local talent while still maintaining its reputation for being an elegant and luxurious affair. The remarkable fashion show ended with a Gala dinner, where H.H Sheikha Hend hosted the Royals, VIPs, and designers.
Sheikha Hend comments summed up the evening perfectly; “Dubai has become a regional lighthouse for innovation and design thanks to its government’s keenness to launch initiatives that support progress in the design industry, and stimulate innovation. It’s great to see such a varied mix of guests- that have the same interests at heart come together.”
