COOL SPORTS TO DO IN DUBAI: SUP PILATES

Rihanna, Alessandra Ambrosio, Cindy Crawford or Eva Longoria are just some of the many celebrities who have already started practicing SUP Pilates (aka Paddle Surf Pilates). It is fun, it gives you a good workout and we can practise it in Dubai. Want to know more?

Paddle Surf Pilates is a very complete sport beyond the media pull and the glamour of the celebrities practising it. To learn more about this discipline we talked to Ruben Esteve. He is a Personal Trainer based in Dubai that instructs a variety of studio based classes from high intense cardio, body pump, mat Pilates and of course SUP Pilates.

THE INTERVIEW

Hi Ruben! Can you explain us what is SUP Pilates?

It is a new concept of exercise. You do Pilates or Yoga on a Stand-up Paddle Surf. It is a new way of training, where you need to find the perfect balance while doing the postures. You get lots of benefits and incredible results for your body.

SUP PILATES

What benefits has the SUP Pilates?

SUP Pilates offers you a total body conditioning and balance training with a workout that makes you feel like you are walking on water.

Using your SUP board as a Pilates or Yoga mat, we do leg strengthening, upper body toning, and core exercises. Simple exercises performed in a studio take on a whole new challenge with the movement of the SUP board in water.

By keeping the balance while exercising you are improving your body´s control, the precision of your movements, the flow between postures and your breathing while strengthening your core and abs.

What are the differences between SUP Pilates and Pilates Mat?

Basically, the balance and the stability. Pilates or Yoga on the ground gives you much more stability and security during your exercises. In SUP Pilates or Yoga your base is much more unstable. This activates your core muscles. You need to be more aware and concentrated, but you develop your balance and the power of your muscles.

WE LIKE IT! NOW WHAT DO WE NEED TO START SUP PILATES?

Do you need to have Pilates knowledge to start practicing this sport?

There is no need to have any level of yoga or Pilates. There are different levels in the sessions: beginner, intermediate or advanced.

It is always very important to ask your instructor what kind of class you should join.

Who can practice this sport and from what age can we start practicing Paddle Surf Pilates?

Classes are always controlled and supervised by an instructor with a certificate. He or she will tailor each workout to your fitness level.

Everyone who likes water activities are more than welcomed to join this fun sport.

SUP PILATES

What kind of material do we need to practice SUP Pilates?

You can practise SUP Pilates or Yoga in a pool or also in the open sea. You only need a comfortable swim suit and a Paddle surf board with all the accessories that the board contains.

Where can we practice this sport in Dubai?

We have some groups. We invite you to come and have a look. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.30am in Umm Suqeim open beach, you can find us. We meet at the Surf House School. There you can rent the boards if you want.
