During summer we should be having fun on vacations under the sun and drink fruity cocktails. But!!! Don’t forget to take care of your skin care also. DFN Beauty team found two products from Herbal Essentials that you need to add to your beach or pool bag.
But first, let´s understand what we need to know about how the sun impacts our skin.
SUNCARE
What are we protecting our skin from?
We can consider ourselves being lucky for having sunny days all year long as it provides us with vitamin D and E and gives us a glowing look with a tanned skin. However, we also should keep in mind that it could be a threat for our skin. Therefore, we need to protect it properly against UV rays.
What are UV Rays?
The sunlight that reaches us is made up of two types of rays: long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB).
On the one hand, UVA rays are the ones penetrating the thickest layer of our skin, the dermis. On the other hand, UVB rays will usually burn the superficial layers of your skin (skin surface and epidermis). This plays a key role in the development of skin cancer. Unprotected sun exposure develops premature skin aging and the appearance of wrinkles as a result of the photoaging. So, make sure your sun care protection products protect you against UVA and UVB.
DFN beauty team tried and tested some of Herbal Essentials sun care products and this is our review.
To try them we took the products on holidays with us.. all the way to Spain! To a beautiful rural house in the Southwest, surrounded by trees and nature but with all the amenities you might think of. Of course, a gorgeous swimming pool was right there waiting for us to enjoy, play, read and relax.

HERBAL ESSENTIALS SUNCARE PRODUCTS
We received two products: an oil and a lotion. Both suitable for all skin types, sensitive skin included.
SUNSCREEN OIL SPF 30
Made of sweet orange essential oil Herbal Essentials Sunscreen Oil SPF30 is formulated with a broad-spectrum filter that offers effective UVA/UVB protection whilst leaving the skin velvety even after toweling. Sweet Orange essential oil is enriched with Vitamin C and helps to enhance the synthesis of collagen. The antioxidant nature of this oil helps to lower the signs of premature aging. Sweet citrus fruity aroma as an anti aging fruit cocktail for your skin.
How to use?
For best results, apply product body 30 minutes prior to sun exposure. Try to avoid the contact with your bikini-specially if light colored- and wash your hands before touching your eyes or face. Consider re-applying to maintain protection during a long sun exposure, especially after swimming or toweling even though it’s water resistant.
BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN LOTION SPF30
This lotion offers effective UVA/UVB protection whilst leaving the skin hydrated thanks to its quick absorption. Before applying, it could seem a bit thick but it’s easy to apply and leaves your skin moisturized. Since it doesn’t leave any white marks and the smell is quite neutral, we consider it the perfect sun protection to use on a daily basis. We love that it doesn’t interfere with your personal perfume and it doesn’t stain your clothes. Isn’t that great? And remember, even if you are not going to the pool or the beach, you still need to protect your skin.
How to use?
You need to apply the lotion 30 minutes prior to sun exposure or before getting dressed. It will easily get absorbed. Consider re-applying in order to maintain protection during a long sun exposure, especially after swimming or toweling even though it’s water resistant.
It’s made of skin friendly ingredients. For example, aloe vera, a very well-known natural skin healer which will cool down your skin in case of sunburnt and rebalance the moisture levels. It also contains rosemary, powerful in antioxidants which slow down the effect of aging thus making your skin firmer and more elastic. Moreover, it stimulates biological activity and cell growth to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Useful in reducing the swelling and puffiness of the skin as well as healing burns. It also contains jojoba seeds which are a powerful skin moisturizer. It contains all the ingredients your skin will need to stay young under the sun.
