Art Week is back! The largest cultural event of the region will be celebrated this March. Held across the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, it will be packed with outdoor art projects, films, performances, literature, exhibitions, and workshops highlighting the fast-growing creative scene.
From the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar to the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi, this 2017 Art Week edition, will include many cultural activities. Art Week is supported by institutions, universities, galleries and hotels across the cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Doha.
Here we list some of the events we are not missing. And you shouldn´t either!
ART WEEK MUST-VISITS
SIKKA FAIR 2017
Dates: Saturday, March 11, 2017 10:00- 18:00 – Tuesday, March 21, 2017
Where: Al Fahidi Historical neighborhood of Dubai
SIKKA Art Fair is a great platform for all the GCC and UAE-based artists to show their talent. This seventh edition will include poetry recitals, music and dance performances, theatre acts, open-air cinema screenings, and art works, such as painting, photography, and sculptures.
Not only in Al Fahidi, but also around Dubai, we will have the chance to enjoy art. Why? Because this year they will feature two new events. The first one, “SIKKA around the City”, will be showing pop-up art installations in different neighborhoods. The second one, “SIKKA Art Van” is a mobile art space that will be traveling around the City with its exhibitions and workshops.
DESIGN DAYS
Dates: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 13:00- Friday, March 17, 2017 19:00
Where: Dubai Design District, D3.
Design Days Dubai, the fair dedicated to provide a platform for modern and contemporary design, will return for its 6th edition. This time Dubai Design District D3, the emerging creative district, is the lucky location to host this fabulous event. This year’s program will cover exhibitions, workshops, discussion panels, talks and live performances.
The Public Program includes:
- Hands-on workshops and masterclasses by exhibitors such as Craft Council (UK).
- Design experts from the region, presented by Tackle.
- Panel discussions organized with partners Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Nuqat.
- Daily Audi Innovation Talks.
- Live performance by Dutch designer duo Os & Oos, supported by the Dutch Consulate.
- A book signing by Marko Brajovic at The Atlas Bookstore, the region’s dedicated architectural archive.
- Sound by Molecule, live digital radio combining exhibitor interviews and music among other things.
ART DUBAI
Dates: Wednesday, March 15, 2017, 13:00 – Saturday, March 18, 2017, 18:00
Where: Madinat Jumeirah
Art Dubai has become a great hub for artists, curators, and designers from all over the region. It offers a space for networking, showcasing and learning. In this edition, the program will include the Global Art Forum, the Modern Symposium, different workshops for kids, performances, films, etc. Also, it will showcase presentations of commissioned art pieces for the fair, and promote educational programs from Campus Art Dubai, Art Dubai Fellowship, and The Sheikha Manal Little Artists.
