The news is out and about. The oldest known natural pearl has been discovered and is in Abu Dhabi. It was discovered by a group of archaeologists of the Department of Culture and Tourism working in Marawah Island, off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
This discovery represents according to experts, the earliest known evidence for pearling yet discovered in the world. This pearl was named “Abu Dhabi Pearl” and it was found in layers of carbon-dated 5800-5600 BCE.
This particular event has become into a magnificent spectacle many are eager to see. And soon you will be able. When? Where? At the Abu Dhabi´s Louvre exhibition “10,000 years of luxury”. There you will see the unique “Abu Dhabi Pearl”. Yet another reason to explore the wonders of the Emirates without a doubt.
There were two prior discoveries to the “Abu Dhabi Pearl”. One at Neolithic site in Umm al-Quwain and the other at a Neolithic cemetery in Sharjah.
SUCH A TREASURE!
The “Abu Dhabi Pearl” is a double treasure. To start, pearls are so delicate and beautiful. A present of Mother Nature and of Mother of Pearl! On top of that, the historical and cultural symbolism that has for the Emirates and for the world makes it impossible to calculate it´s value. It must be the most expensive centimeter length ever- I dare to say.
This pearl is possibly having a quite interesting story since the team of experts working on this discovery is suggesting this pearl was used for exchange along with other goods in the Neolithic period. Pearling or the Art of Pearling as many name it, was the UAE’s economy for millennia.
Stay tuned, since the very much expected “10.000 years of luxury” exhibition starts on October 30th and you don´t want to miss the view with so many unbelievable things, included this unique “Abu Dhabi Pearl”. This exhibition ends by February 2020.
