New York Fashion Week just finished and we know now what would be in the shops in 6 months. We see there is a clear line of trends you cannot miss when updating your wardrobe for the coming winter.
HIGHLIGHTS: THE TRENDS
NATURAL FUR
We have seen a lot for fur and leather. This time the furs are more natural when it comes to the colour and even have a romantic, kind of vintage cut. There were some colourful options, coming specially from Jeremy Scott that played soft toys as fur stoles.
The neckline of coats is covered with fluffy and cosy furs in most of the shows. There was a lot of neckwear. Brock Collection put their fur cravats on top of dresses and coats alike. Josep Font from Del Pozo had the models with their heads cover up making turtleneck longer going over the head -like the scuba divers. One thing is for sure, designers don’t want you to catch a flu.
70´s ARE BACK
And this is not only because of the cuts of the fur, the miniskirts, the big earrings, but also because of the prints and the fishnet stockings. The prints range from psychodelia to plaids, and also florals. Florals that your granny would have deemed perfect for the sofa upholstery. Yep! Those are back.
BIG BELTS
Big and Wide belts embracing the waistline and in some catwalks, we need to add one more adjective to the belts: extra-long. Like Oscar de la Renta´s first Monse collection.
WILD WEST
Back to the cowboys and the yihaa! Coach runway for example was all about that romantic western movie, with asymmetrical sheep skin, checkered patterns, leather and jeans. The farmer is giving a party at the barn and all of you are invited.
BUCKETS HATS
Great for Marge Simpson and from now on, for us too. They really seemed to be cozy and warm. Marc Jacobs and Coach were the ones that showed it best.
VELVET NIGHTS
This is a trend that captured most of the designer’s imagination. Soft, draping beautiful the body shape. They used mostly bright colours: Red, green, blue and golden yellow.
WINTER HUES AND RED
In most of the catwalks winter colours were predominant – grey and camel being the general winners. There was though an important amount of reds here and there. From night dresses – were it was the most selected colour- to coats and even colour block looks.
ASSYMETRY
Most of the time showing as one shoulder off, irregular shaped skirts, dresses and twisted seams, showing some flesh in torsos, legs etc. Sies Marjan, Proenza Schuler, Oscar de la Renta, Zero + Maria Cornejo.. basically almost everyone on this edition played it.
ROCK AND ROLL
Alexander Wang and Brandon Maxwell brought the darkside. Blacks, leather, tacks and zippers, urban flavour.. Cool but a bit overdone already.
