Khaleej Times recently hosted the groundbreaking ‘Journey to Net Zero’ event, where industry experts and leaders gathered to discuss the evolution of sustainability in the different sectors. One part of the event shed light on the tug-of-war between sustainability and fashion, as the industry grapples with defining true sustainable practices and fostering a fair and circular system.

In the heart of this sustainable fashion revolution lies The Giving Movement, not merely a brand but a thriving community committed to driving positive change. During the event, we had the privilege of delving into the brand’s remarkable journey with Dr. Lucas B. Naves, Head of Materials & Sustainability at The Giving Movement, and the insightful moderator, Araceli Gallego, Editor-in-Chief of Dubai Fashion News and founder of the sustainable lifestyle e-commerce Goshopia.

Dr. Lucas Naves passionately shared the brand’s unwavering commitment to making a difference and how they are achieving their objectives in the United Arab Emirates. One of the key pillars of their success is the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools, which enable brands like The Giving Movement to gauge the environmental impacts of their products. “Understanding the intricacies of the value chain, especially in reducing carbon emissions, is vital for The Giving Movement,” emphasized Dr. Naves.

But The Giving Movement’s efforts don’t end there. Through data collection and industry insights, Dr. Naves highlighted the power of validating their findings to create meaningful partnerships and identify key areas for further decarbonization.

Peering behind the scenes of this transformative brand, we discovered the meticulous process behind their collections. The Giving Movement ingeniously blends recycling and upcycling techniques for materials like polyester, spandex, elastane, and crinkled nylon, masterfully combining them with 100% eco-friendly organic bamboo. The result? A product range that not only boasts comfort and durability but also captivates with its timeless and chic aesthetic.

Yet, The Giving Movement transcends being just a brand with a green identity; it embodies a socially responsible group of individuals dedicated to giving back to communities in need. With every purchase, a contribution of $4 is made to charity, in partnership with Dubai Cares and Harmony House India. As of February 12, 2023, the brand has proudly donated an astounding $4,172,424.
